Pacific Builder and Engineer was  founded in 1902 in Seattle WA.  As Modernism took hold in the Pacific Northwest, publishers Wallace and Gloria Nelson launched Pacific Architect and Builder as a new monthly publication focused on architecture in addition to construction.  In 1960, the magazine commissioned architect A. O. Bumgardner to design a new headquarters at 1945 Yale Place East with structural engineer Jack Christiansen. The building featured a dramatic hyperbolic paraboloid thin-shell concrete roof and was completed in 1961.  In 1962, the magazine changed its name to Architecture/West.  The magazine ended in 1973.
