DONALD IVAN SINGER, FAIA (1938-)

Born in Trenton NJ, Singer graduated from South Broward HS in Hollywood FL in 1955. He graduated in architecture from the University of Florida in 1960; from Columbia in 1961. He went in the USAF stationed in Florida and simultaneously worked for Chuck Reed. He later worked for Dan Duckham and started his own practice in 1964. Project list by Singer and Randy Henning.

1956 - The Donald and Elaine Singer Residence II, The 1506 Southwest 9th Street, Fort Lauderdale FL.  A prefabricated home elevated on a masonry pedestal to preserve the wooded site, built with independent concrete roof columns and factory-made aluminum-clad wall panels. Designed around a central kitchen and naturally ventilated bedrooms, the house was intended to be movable but has remained in place for 50 years.


1965 - The Leonard Romanik House. Unbuilt.
1965 - The George Marholin House. Unbuilt.



1965 - The Ruben Schmidt Apartments, Fort Lauderdale FL. Built.



1965 - The Hugh McAndless Residence, 1632 Southeast 7th Street, Fort Lauderdale FL. Sold in 2024 to William G. Miller.


1965 - James and Nan Farquhar Residence, 6800 SW 33rd Street, Davie FL 33314. House was originally on 80 acres. 60 acres were sold. Gifted to Nova University and became the university president's house.




1966 - The Richard H. Bugdal Residence, 11353 Southwest 69th Court, Miami FL. Destroyed.


1966 - The Donald and Elaine Singer Residence, Office, Apartments, 1301 Southeast 2nd Court, Fort Lauderdale FL Won a 1966 AIA Florida Award.



1966 - The Alan and Marsha Levy Residence. Unbuilt.




1966 - The Robert Greenberg Residence, North Miami FL. Built.




1966 - The Herb Harris House. Built. This was a Chuck Reed project that Singer finished. 


 1968 - The Peter and Ann Niiler Residence, aka Block House, 6109 55th Court, Davie FL. Sold to Duane and Wesla Hanson. Featured in Architectural Record, November 1970.


1968 - The Lewis and Terry Weinberger House, 14560 Northeast 3rd Court, North Miami FL.




1968 - The Arnold Mann House. Unbuilt.


1968 - The Joseph and Sheila Schmidt Residence, 4135 Crawford Avenue, Coconut Grove, Miami FL. Unbuilt addition in 1981. Sold around 1997. Modifications, not by Singer.

1969 - The Benjamin and Devera Victor House, aka House in Palm Beach County, 1141 Spanish River Drive, Boca Raton FL. Won a 1974 AIA Florida Award. Destroyed.




1969 - The Harvey and Betty Fleisher Addition, Miami FL. Harvey was Singer's doctor. Removed the carport and built a living room addition. Sold.




1969 - The Alvin Powers Apartments, Fort Lauderdale FL. Built.




1969 - The Joseph and Roberta Klein Residence, SW 95th Street, Coral Gables FL.  Built.


1968 - The Lewis Weinberger Residence, Miami FL An Architectural RECORD House in 1969. Built by the client. Engineering, Houha and Harry.

2002 - The Lauren and Maya Singer Residence, aka Flashpointe, 6201 Southwest 57th Place, Davie FL.  Singer designed the house for his daughter and grandaughter. The public and private areas are split by open central spaces. The living room faces a pond and is divided by a low multifunction unit, while enclosed bedroom gardens with glass walls bring light and seclusion. The house also has a kitchen overlook and a two-story entry feature with a ladder-accessed hideaway.
