1941 - The Peter and Frances Trainer Goldmark House, aka Salant House, 2 Wing Road, New Canaan CT.   Designed by Peter and Frances Goldmark.  Built by George Hickey.  Deeded to Richard and Frances Trainer Goldmark Salant.  1980 renovation by Chris Mooman.  Sold and destroyed around 2018.


 

1947 - The MacKnight House, 42 Mill Road, New Canaan CT.   Possibly designed by Wilton architect Lewis Gelders. Dorothy MacKnight, a local decorator and painter, acquired the property in 1939. Sold in  1957 to builder Paul Borglum, who built a barn and shed in 1960 and an addition in 1973.  Sold to Harriet M. Borglum in 1975 and Linda B. Fry in 1986.  Status unknown.


11951 - The William B. (Bimel) and Rowena Kehm House, 1532 Ponus Ridge, New Canaan CT.  Designed and built by William Bimel Kehm.  Sold in 1954 to John S. Bainbridge.  Sold in 1961 to Dorothy H. Gary, who added a garage/studio building and a new bath.  Sold in 1967 to Francis and Anna L. Gress.  1967 renovation by Dan Kistler.  Deeded to Francis Gress in 1978. In 1998, another major renovation using Kistler, built by Marek Bil, Old World Construction.  Sold in 2017.


 

1951 - The Merrill E. and Annette Talbert House, 100 Clapboard Hill, New Canaan CT.  Designed by William Glynne Jones.  After the Talberts divorced, sold in 1964 to John P. and Helen M. Winandy.  Sold in 1965 to Catherine S. Kniffen.  Sold to Hahn.  Sold in 1971 to Alan J. and Nancy C. Mitchell, who converted the basement into a studio, darkroom, and office.  Destroyed around 2015.

1953 - The Richard and Beatty Harding House, 259 Indian Rock Road, New Canaan CT.  Designed by Page & Franklyn.  In 1967, a one-story, multi-sided addition was completed. Sold in 1994 to Richard G. and Eva McCarrick.


1953 - aka Island House, 1528 Ponus Ridge Road, New Canaan CT.  Designed by William Bimel Kehm.  Several renovations, including one in the 2020's by Ampersand Architecture and landscape design by Keith E. Simpson.  Sold to Robertson Holdings LLC.  Sold in 2013 to Harlan Stone.  


1954 - The James Swallen House, aka Techbuilt/Swallen, 257 Wahackme Road, New Canaan CT.  A Techbuilt house designed by Carl Koch. 1964 addition and renovation by Landis Gores. Color photo by Marty Skrelunas.  Sold to Aileen Kelly and Michael Mastey.

1955 - The Dean McCune Kelly House, New Canaan CT.  Designed by William Bimel Kehm.  Developed by Kehm and R. R. Austin as a spec house.   In 1959, the garage was converted into a playroom  and a new freestanding two-car garage built. Sold in 1961 to Vincent A. and Ruth Tauber. In 1987, a second floor was added above the former screened porch.  Sold in 1992 to Kevin M. and Sally S. Sweeney.








1956 - The Beaven Mills House, 31 Chichester, New Canaan CT.  Designed by William Francis Pedersen.  In 1960, a separate carport was built. Sold in 2021.

1956 - The Allan F. Hurlbert House, 67 Benedict Hill Road, New Canaan CT.  Designed by Leroy Binkley.  Carport in 1959; pool in 1965.  Sold around 1970 to  Daniel P. Wood.  Sold in 1978 to Thomas S. Carroll, who added on an L-shaped addition containing a master bedroom and bath suite in 1986. Sold in 2003 to Bahar Tavakolian.

1957 - The Gerald Docters House, 240 Benedict Hill Road, New Canaan CT.  Architect unknown.  Built by Blitz and Price.  Sold in 1964 to Norman E. Pennels.  Sold in 1966 to James F. Sirmons. Sold in 1977 to Richard H. Ference.  Sold in 1984 to Robert and Francine A. T. Schechter, who hired architect Chris Moomaw to do a 1988 addition.  Destroyed in 2023.


 

1958 - The Charles E. and Frances E. Wilson House, 1160 Smith Ridge Road, New Canaan CT.  A Techbuilt house designed by Carl Koch.  Frances Wilson an interior designer who worked for Willis Mills/SMS in Stamford.  In 1971, she became the head of SMS Interiors, an offshoot of SMS Architects.  Garage added in 1959.  Deeded to Frances Wilson in 1980.  Sold in 2000 to Garrett A. Camporine.  Sold in 2020 to Maria Tabares.

1959 - The Michael Irving House, 467 North Wilton, New Canaan CT.  Designed by Michael Irving.  Destroyed. 


1958 - The Alcoa House, aka Care Free House, 127 Wellesley Drive, New Canaan CT.  Designed by Charles Goodman. Showcase house for the Aluminum Company of America to demonstrate the use of aluminum in a house. Approximately 40 houses were completed in the United States. Sold in 1959 to Kenneth H. and Mary R. McClure on the same day.  Between 1964 and 1965, addition of an indoor pool built by E. L. Wolner Company and a garage, additional bedroom and bath. Sold in 1981 to William R. and Joan P. Martin.  Sold in 1983 to Robert M. and Harriet Blees Dewey, Jr.  In 1987, a second floor
was added.  Sold in 1997 to Anil and Enid B. Prasad who built a new three-car garage and entryway. 


 

1961 - The Lorenzo J. Fiore House, 38 Evergreen Road, New Canaan CT. Architect unknown. Garage addition in 1964.  Sold in 1974 to John and Sheila Owen-Smith, who added a pool in 1978 and an addition in 1981.  Sold in 1990 to PHH Homeequity Corporation.  Sold in 1991 to Cornell D. Cornish, Jr. and Marie A. Cornish.  Sold in 1998 to Giovanni and Girolamo Soro. Deeded to heirs.


1961 - The John and Zula Crichton House, 98 Thayer Pond Road, New Canaan CT.  Designed by William Landsberg.  Two acres near the Lake Club.  Built by Ted Hobbs; landscape design by James Fanning and Richard Bergmann. Noted author Michael Crichton grew up there.  Still owned by the Crichton family as of 2009.


1962 - The Isaac and Marion Hall House, 25 Lambert Road, New Canaan CT. Designed by William Francis Pedersen. Built by Ted Hobbs. Around 1975, an addition on piers was added. Sold in 1979 to Edward (Ned) H. and Nancy Z. Walworth, with new landscape landscape by Anne Mackenzie.  Sold in 2008 to Scott Phillips and Christina Nichols.  On the National Register of Historic Places.


1962 - The Henry S. and Virginia Jones House, New Canaan CT.  Architect unknown.  Addition in 1963 of two bedrooms and a bathroom.  Sold in 1970 to R. Munger.  Sold in 1976 to Stuart D. Watson and Sarah and Sperry A. DeCew.  Deeded in 1979 to the DeCews.  Sold in 1979 to Donald J. and Joan E. Carroll.  Several more owners, then the house foreclosed in 1991.  Sold in 1992 to  John L. and Alice Mitchell.  Sold in 2000 to Daniel J. and Kelly A. DeFrancesco.  Sold in 2006 to Frank Ramppen.  Destroyed in 2013. 


1962 - The M. W. and Kathlyn Zucker House, 86 Lantern Ridge Road, New Canaan CT.  Designed by P. Whitney Webb. Built by Reed & Lord.  Sold in 1964 to Andre C. DePrez.  Sold in 1995 to Robert B. and Thea D. Ross, still owners as of 2020.


1963 - The Harry and Margaret Archer House, 305 Indian Rock Road, New Canaan CT.  Architect unknown.  Built by George Platts.   About 7 acres.  Sold in 1973 to Alois A. and Genevieve Stauber.  Deeded in 1986 to Genevieve Stauber.  Sold in 1990 to Peter M. and Sally J. Finnican, who did significant renovations and additions.  Garage in 1994 and a second addition connecting the house and garage after that.   Sold in 2018.  Sold in 2023.


1964 - The Lazslo Papp Renovation, 1197 Valley Road, New Canaan CT.  Designed by Lazslo Papp.  Built by Andrew Pirro. Originally constructed in 1945 as a one-room summer cottage, the house has had many additions and renovations, including in 1961, a second room and a two-car garage.  Still in the Papp family as of 2020.


1964 - The Gary and Janet Lindstrom House, 231 Sleepy Hollow Road.  New Canaan CT.  Designed by Gary Lindstrom.  Built by Emil Toikka.  In 1976, a freestanding studio was built, connected to the house by an elevated wood deck with a drawbridge.  Still owners as of 2020. 


1964 - The Murphy House, 320 North Wilton, New Canaan CT.  Designed by Allan Gelbin.  Photos by Marty Skrelunas.  Built by Walter R. T. Smith. Sold in 2001 to Ron Meckler and Jackie Shapiro, still owners as of 2025.


1965 - The William M. Fine House, 592 Weed Street, New Canaan CT.  Designed by Lazslo Papp.  The Fine House was designed by Laszlo Papp for William M. Fine. Fine was the publisher of Harper’s Bazaar and Town & Country magazines. Built by Andrew Pirro.  Sold in 1978 to Joyce D. and Stewart Flaschen, who hired Papp to design a kitchen addition and new vestibule, completed in 1980, also by Pirro.  Sold in 2002 to  Craig R. Kingsley who did an addition and alterations. Kingsley still owner as of 2016.


1966 - 243 Smith Ridge Road, New Canaan CT.  Built with a Techbuilt core.  Sold to the Parsa family.  Sold in 2019 to Chen Yurista.




1966 - The Adolph E. and Annette Louise Nebel Leuthold House, 631 West Road, New Canaan CT.  Designed by Allan Gelbin; photo by Pedro Guerrero; built by Walter R. T.  Smith; landscape design by Adolph Leuthold; engineer, C. Foti. Includes a guest house.  Sold in 1977 to Joseph and Jeanne Spielman who added a storage building and a studio.  Sold in 1997 to Lionel N. Sterling.  Renovated in 2014 by JMKA Architects. 


1966 - The Ernest B. and Chaillie Latham House, 122 Woods End Road, New Canaan CT.  Designed by Richard Bergmann.  Overlooks the Noroton River.  Built by Theron Thurston.  This was Bergmann’s first house he designed.  Bergmann resigned from working for Eliot Noyes to take the job.  Structural engineer, Arne Thune.  Sold in 1981 to Ian Zwicker.  Sold in 1983 to Bela J. Garet.  Sold in 1985 to Donald S. and Jean N. Lamm.  Sold in 1995 to Darryl Neider.  Sold in 2005 to David G. Scannell, Trustee, who had Bergmann to design an addition in 2008.   Sold in 2021 to Matthew Kent Foley.





1967 - The Jane Davis Doggett and Dorothy Jackson House, aka Doggett Jackson House, 160 Lantern Ridge Road, New Canaan CT.  Architect unknown.  They were well-known graphic designers, particularly for airport signage. Designed by Charles Jacobs, with Jane Doggett.  The original house had an indoor pool with a waterfall. At some point before 1982, the separate garage was converted into a guest studio. Sold in 1982 to Leonard and Claire L. Tow, who added a vestibule, a sunroom, a porch, and a deck in 1983. In 1985, a two-car attached garage was completed and in 1986 a pool;  a few years later, a greenhouse. Tow's still owners as of 2024. 


1968 - The Lamm House Renovation, 95 Woods End Road, New Canaan CT.  Original house 1946.  Designed by Richard Bergmann.  Heavily modified and added onto. 


1969 - The Robert S. Whitlow House, 191 Brookwood, New Canaan CT.  Designed by Allan Gelbin. Sold in 1985 to Jerry Davidoff.  Sold in 1986 to Lawrence and Barbara Kessler, still owners as of 2008. 


1969 - The Donal and Marge McDonnell House, 100 Greenley Road, New Canaan CT.  Designed by Eduardo Faxas.  Built by Paul Murphy.  Faxas worked for Eliot Noyes.  Sold in 1976 to John Ford, who built a tennis court in 1982.  Several renovation by Faxas, including a pool.  Sold in 1987 to Gerald L. Cohen, who built a new kitchen and added to the master bedroom.  Sold in 2013 to George Cohen.
