Pacific Builder and Engineer was founded in 1902 in Seattle WA. As the Pacific Northwest grew, publishers Wallace and Gloria Nelson launched Pacific Architect and Builder as a new monthly publication focused on architecture and construction. In 1960, the magazine commissioned architect A. O. Bumgardner to design a new headquarters at 1945 Yale Place East with structural engineer Jack Christiansen, feagturing a dramatic hyperbolic paraboloid thin-shell concrete roof, completed in 1961. In 1962, the magazine changed to Architecture/West. It ended in 1973.
