American Bungalow magazine was started by John Brinkmann in 1990 and revived interest in the bungalow architectural style. After moving into a 1914 bungalow in Sierra Madre, California, Brinkmann found it difficult to locate replacement parts for his historic home. He started a newsletter to exchange information with other bungalow owners, which quickly grew into a magazine to accommodate advertisers. In 2003, the editors of the Chicago Tribune named American Bungalow one of the 50 Best Magazines in the nation. The print magazine folded in 2021 with issue 100 and by 2025 the website www.ambungalow.com was gone.
