You will see - and visit - incredible architecture, art, design, and furniture in three countries.  This is a truly thrilling opportunity to see some of the world's best architecture plus the stunning natural beauty of Denmark, Sweden, and Norway.  Join USModernist's 10th international trip and follow in the footsteps of serious Modernism fans!

Day 1 Tuesday May 12 - Departure! Fly on your own to Copenhagen, Denmark (CPH).  Feel free to arrive earlier than May 12 and make your own arrangements with the hotel.  If you would like to fly out of RDU, please email Angela Roehl, angela@angelaroehl for recommended flight details.

Day 2 Wednesday May 13 - Starting at 10am, special early check-in at the Scandic Spectrum Copenhagen Hotel, beautifully located on a canal near Christianstad.  You'll get a 3-day Copenhagen Metro Pass.  Relax in your cozy room or start exploring the charming nearby Tivoli Gardens, an elegant old-world amusement park. That night, a welcome dinner nearby.

Day 3 Thursday May 14 - After breakfast at the hotel, the group will take the metro to Orestad, Denmark's hippest area, to see VM House, Mountain House, and Tietgen Student Hall. Back in central Copenhagen, you'll see the Royal Playhouse (designed by Lundgaard and Tranberg). Return to hotel about 2pm.  Lunch and dinner on your own.

Day 4 Friday May 15 - After breakfast, you go by private coach to the Blue Planet, Denmark's national aquarium.  Returning to Copenhagen, you'll tour Blox, Circle Bridge, the Danish Architecture Center/Blox Cultural area, and Copenhill, Bjarke Ingels' amazing incinerator/ski slope.  Return to the hotel around 2pm. Lunch and dinner on your own.  Optional on your own: take the train to Malmo, Sweden, to explore Moderna Museet, Hyllie Water Tower, and the Emporia shopping area across the Oresund Bridge.

Day 5 Saturday May 16 - Touring and Cruise to Norway! After breakfast, check out of the hotel for a full day touring more great Copenhagen architecture: the Copenhagen Opera House, Crystal Building, Frosilo, Black Diamond, and Superkilen. That afternoon board an overnight ferry to Oslo. Lunch is on your own at a local market.  Dinner is on your own on the ship.  If you're up early, the sunrise view sailing into Oslo is beautiful.

Day 6 Sunday May 17 - Oslo!  In the morning, after breakfast on the ship (provided), arrive in Oslo and drop bags at the Thon Hotel Opera.  Next, a walking tour of Tjuvholmen neighborhod; the MAD building; and Deichman Bjørvika Library. You'll get a 2-day Oslo travel card.  Return to the hotel around 1pm.  Lunch and dinner are on your own.

Day 7 Monday May 18 - More Oslo!  After breakfast, by private coach you will see the Westerdal School, the Oslo Opera House, and the impressive Statoil Office building.  Return around 1pm.  Lunch on your own.  That night, a group dinner.

Day 8 Tuesday May 19 - Scenic Train to Stockholm!  Following breakfast, you'll go to the Oslo Central railway station for the scenic train to Stockholm.  Everyone will be upgraded to business class!  Upon arrival walk to the Radisson Blu Waterfront hotel to rest and relax, then spend the afternoon exploring Stockholm on your own.  Lunch on the train, dinner on your own.

Day 9 Wednesday May 20 - Stockholm! After breakfast, a 6-hour tour around Stockholm, including 79+Park, the Norre Tornen towers, the Stockholm Public Library, the Ericsson Globe including a skyview ride, Aula Medica in Solna, and the high-design Stockholm Metro.  Lunch on your own in the Ostermalm Market Hall.  Return to the hotel around 3pm.  Dinner on your own.

Day 10 Thursday, May 21 - More Stockholm!  Travel by private coach to Artipelag, a stunning Modernist art museum 15 miles from Stockholm.  Return to the hotel about 12n.  Lunch on your own.  That evening a delicious farewell dinner cruise around the islands of Stockholm!



Day 11 Friday May 22 - Flight Home or Journey Onwards.  After breakfast, you have a free morning, check out by 11am.  USModernist will provide a free shuttle to the Stockholm airport leaving at 8am.  You must confirm participation for this shuttle with Angela Roehl.  You will leave with fabulous memories, lots of photos, and a heart full of exciting Scandinavian architecture, wonderful people, and natural beauty!

The Fine Print: 

Once payment is made, there are no refunds for any reason except if USModernist cancels the entire tour.  We strongly encourage everyone to purchase travel insurance

The itinerary and order of events are subject to change without notice or refund.

Hotel rooms typically include two twin beds instead of a king, as is more customary in Scandinavia.

Does not include airfare, airport parking, luggage fees, or any other ancillary flight-related costs.

Because we are in multiple locations, participants are limited to one carry-on and one personal item (purse or backpack). No checked luggage going over, it is fine coming back.

Participants must sign a liability release as is standard with all USModernist trips.

You're responsible for any incidental charges to your hotel rooms.  Breakfast and wifi is included every day.

Architects can get self-reported CEU hours if arranged in advance with the AIA.

There is NO SMOKING or vaping or tobacco products of any kind at the hotels or buses, inside or outside. $250 fine if you're caught and/or there's evidence of smoking or vaping.
